FOOD CRAWL: CHINATOWN, BINONDO MANILA

TECH SQUAD FOODIE DIARIES X ENG BEE TIN HOPIA HOARDING

大家好! What’s up, fairies? The internet connection is in a good mood tonight so I can finally share my latest FOOD CRAWL with the TECH SQUAD. First, I’d like to enlighten you about my food trips with these girls. It all started last year when I joined the Technology Team, they’re into exploring different restaurants and cafes so I got hooked as well. As we all know, I’m into restaurants and/or cafes with a twist either on their menus or aesthetics. The first time that I joined the group was during their MAGINHAWA STREET food crawl which I wasn’t able to share with you guys just because I’m so tamad to write about it. OKAY, WHATEVS.

So last February 12, a few days after the Chinese New Year, they asked me to tour them around Chinatown. Chinatown is a part of Binondo, Manila; the place where I grew up. A few places that is known in BINONDO is 1.) the beautiful Binondo Church (i was baptized here as a baby) and 2.) The Lucky Chinatown Mall and many more. But apart from that, Binondo is also known for their Chinese restaurants that serve nothing but delicious Chinese delicacies.

I only have a few photos and I grabbed them pa from Lara and Angge. I am scared to take out my iphone and take photos kasi wala pa akong pambili ng kapalit hehe. Anyway, we left the office in two batches to avoid whispers from the big bosses. I went with Ady, Lara, and Faith first since Ady wanted to check out this store that sells candies and dried fruits. I told them that we had to leave early because most Chinese stores follow a strict time rule in closing their establishments. Yea, feng shui thing. We left the office around four pm and it wasn’t really that hard to find the store since I’m familiar with the place.

Afterwards, we stayed in Mcdonalds Binondo for awhile as we wait for half of the squad to arrive. Riz, Mona, and Louise had meetings to attend to pa and the four of us are really hungry so we decided to have meryenda in Mcdo.

Around 6pm they left the office and I told them that we’ll meet them sa kanto ng Benavides (huhu Benavides chos). Prior to visiting Binondo, we have already decided that we’ll have dinner in Wai Ying. There are two Wai Yings in Binondo, one is somewhere near Chinatown and the other is in Benavides, right in front of HCHS, my alma mater.

We chose the one infront of HCHS since the other Wai Ying is so crowded! Look at all our happy faces.

SHOUTOUT TO ANGGE WHO WAS IN BOTH PHOTO :)

Most of the girls already researched about the place so they already know what they will order. My apologies, I wasn’t able to take a photo of each of our orders but let me tell you, their LEMON CHICKEN is goddamn delicious. Plus, their huge servings will definitely make you go home with a happy tummy. AND A HAPPY HEART BECAUSE I BUMPED INTO MY HIGH SCHOOL CRUSH! <3

AND HERE IS THE EVIDENCE!

If you’re planning to visit Binondo - I want to share several routes you can take to reach food nirvana:

  1. If you’re going there from Cubao - you may take the LRT Line 2 and drop off in Recto. You have an option to ride a jeepney en route to Divisoria and drop off in Benavides or you can just walk from Recto. If you’re not familiar, I suggest mag-jeep ka hehehe. If you’re already in Benavides, tumawid ka to the other side. Just walk and walk straight, till you reach your destination. CHOS, meron dun na parang wala kanang daan just turn left at Chinatown na yun. Kay? Any questions? Note: this is my route since then kaya ito ung nashare ko hehe.
  2. If you’re using LRT line 1 either from ROOSEVELT or BACLARAN - drop off in Carriedo station - from there you can just walk to Chinatown.
  3. If you’re coming from the SOUTH - USE THE MRT, drop off in Cubao, walk to the LRT Line 2 station and follow route one. :)

There are still a lot of hidden gems that we still can visit. So if you’re craving for Chinese, Binondo is definitely the place to go. You can shoot me a message if you wanted to ask for advice or if you wanna know where else to go there. :)

I CANNOT WAIT FOR OUR NEXT FOOD CRAWL!

Till next post, fairies.
